The Library Service is a partnership established by five of the Berkshire local authorities in 1998 to provide library services for the benefit of their schools.

Under the terms of agreements with London Borough of Ealing and Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, the Library Service is also the official provider of services to schools in Ealing and Kensington and Chelsea.

The Service is managed by a joint board of officers representing each of the five partner authorities. Bracknell Forest Council, as the Host Authority, provide administrative and support services, including employment of staff.  The Service is located in Reading Borough Council premises conveniently located for the motorway and other local communications near the Madjeski Stadium.
